Event Details:

Violinist Michael Tropepe and pianist Maria Malik perform a dazzling program with works from Mendelssohn, Vitali, and Bach.
Mendelssohn's violin concerto, one of the best concertos ever written, takes us through all the emotions with its brilliance and romantic melancholy (especially in the 2nd movement).
Vitali's Chaconne, is a Baroque composition transcribed from a manuscript found in the 18th century. It is the earliest example of a Chaconne. In the 20th century Leopold Charlier made some major alterations to and updated it into a romantic/virtuosic showpiece.
Solo Violin Sonata no. 1 in G minor from Bach's 6 Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin was composed by Bach around 1703 while in Weimar. They are staples of the violin repertoire, and require great bow control and left hand technique. Frequent harmonic intervals, sometimes chords with four notes, and melodic arpeggiation, require great technique and musical taste in order for the soloist to bring out the harmonies convincingly.
